The Alumni Association never got off the ground, so it is a defunct idea for now, that is waiting for others in the future to attempt to bring into fruition. This site is being kept on the internet for historical purposes.

Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgender Alumni Association at UB

As of December 2000, we have initiated the LGBT Alumni Association at U.B.

The goals of the Association are being developed. But they include fund raising for the student group (LGBA) at U.B. In the past, donated funds were used for the annual conference held at U.B. called "OUT LOUD & PROUD" which served the LGBT community of Western New York.

We are thinking about the scope of the Alumni Association, but for now, its main goal is to keep contact with LGBT alumni and to help raise funds for the current student organization.

In the past five years, $2,500 has been contributed to the LGBA by the founder of the Gay Liberation Front of U.B. Now we will have the opportunity to expand on our fund raising potential.

In order for alumni to officially donate funds to the LGBA, they need to use the form which is below. 100% of the tax deductible donation should go to the LGBA student organization.Just print it out the form below and mail it back to Sub Board 1...

Charitable Contribution Agreement Form

I (we) agree to contribute $______________ to Sub Board I, Inc. The suggested manner of use for this contribution is: for a restricted donation to the LGBA.

I (we) understand, that if my (our) contribution is $250 or more, Sub Board I will send an acknowledgment of the contribution upon receipt of my (our) check, which is enclosed. For contributions less than $250 my (our) cancelled check will serve as acknowledgment of the contribution. I (we) also understand that, while Sub Board I plans to use this contribution in the manner suggested, Sub Board I retains authority to redirect the use of this contribution to other related purposes if stated reason ceases to exist.

Camille Hopkins

Camille Hopkins is the President of the Buffalo Belles, a social and support group for transgendered individuals and friends. She is a board member of Pride Buffalo, the coordinating organization of Buffalo and Western New York’s Annual Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgendered Pride Parade and Festival. She is a member of PFLAG (Parents, Family & Friends of Lesbians & Gays) and has recently received the Robert Uplinger Community Service Award for assisting GLYS (Gay & Lesbian Youth Services) and its mission. She has a BA degree in Communications and currently is a Planner in the City of Buffalo’s Department of Community Services.

Rick Landman
Rick Landman was the founder and first president of U.B.'s Gay Liberation Front in 1970, and participated in organizing the First March on Albany for Gay Rights in 1971. He was the New York Representative for the First March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights in 1979. Academically, he has 3 Masters degrees and a JD and currently is the Director of Real Estate Development at New York University and was the Executive Director of Real Estate for the City of New York from 1979-83. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Congregation Beth Simchat Torah, the world's largest GLBT synagogue, and founded the International Association of Lesbian and Gay Children of Holocaust Survivors.

HISTORY OF THE LGBT ALUMNI ASSOCIATION at U.B.

For several years I gave a Founders Award to the head of the LGBA as a token of my appreciation for taking on the task of organizing the group. When I tried to officially make a donation to the LGBA through the SUB BOARD I of U.B. I was told that I had to give them the right to divert the funds at their discretion to any U.B. student group, or if I didn't accept that condition, I could have my check sent back. They actually sent the check back.

I then spent the next year trying to have the Foundation set up a sub group for the LGBT ALumni and it looked promising until December 2000 when I was told that they were not going to have any sub-groups in the Foundation, but they did agree to change the wording for SUB BOARD I to accept donations. Now we can send in donations and receive a tax deduction (like everyone else) and the students will get 100% of the donation.

Once this step was accomplished, I wanted to encourage others to donate, so once again, I have a little to do with starting another LGBT group in Buffalo. Camille graciously volunteered her assistance and together I hope that the idea will spread and that there will always be a well funded student LGBT group at U.B.
